Individuals with insulin-dependent diabetes may now qualify for coverage of the Dexcom G6 continuous glucose monitor (CGM).
Instead of relying on finger pricks, the Dexcom G6 CGM system measures interstitial glucose levels using a sensor inserted just under the skin, then wirelessly transmits the readings to a receiver or a compatible smart phone. With readings up to every 5 minutes and alarms that can be customized for high and low glucose levels, individuals with diabetes are better able to make treatment decisions or adjust insulin dosing. Data can also be shared with loved ones who are involved with their diabetes management — this is especially helpful for young children, as it gives parents significant peace of mind.
